Hide and Seek: A Unique and Functional Residence Design

Integrating Shape and Functionality for a Seamless Living Experience

Shape according to the functions, and the functions can be hidden invisibly. These hidden functional elements made the household usages more smooth and look more pleasant!

Shi-Zhe Luo, a renowned designer, has created a remarkable residence design called "Hide and Seek." This innovative project focuses on seamlessly integrating shape and functionality to enhance the living experience. By cleverly concealing functional elements, Luo has created a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and highly practical.

One of the standout features of "Hide and Seek" is the integration of audio-visual equipment, lighting, and electric curtains through contextual mode technology. With just a tablet or mobile phone, residents can easily control different lighting scenarios and create the desired atmosphere with a single touch.

The design also incorporates hidden storage solutions throughout the space. Massive storage cabinets are seamlessly integrated into the walls of the entrance, dining room partitions, and a unilateral aisle with a strategically placed mirror. Additionally, the entrance to the storage room and shared bathroom is discreetly hidden within long walls across the aisle.

Another unique aspect of "Hide and Seek" is the inclusion of a small platform suspended in the living room for worshiping. This platform features countertops for statues of gods and a bottom drawer for incense. During festivals or celebrations, a compatible table can be installed to display offerings, further enhancing the spiritual experience.

The design of "Hide and Seek" presents several challenges that Luo successfully overcame. For instance, inside the kids' room, a door of the entire wall of cabinets leads to a walk-in dressing room. This innovative solution transformed a small convex space built outside the building into a functional and stylish dressing area.

The "Hide and Seek" project was completed in November 2015 in Taichung City, Taiwan. It showcases Luo's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to create spaces that seamlessly blend form and function. The design has received accolades, including the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017.

Shi-Zhe Luo's "Hide and Seek" is a testament to the power of integrating shape and functionality in residential design. By hiding functional elements and prioritizing seamless usability, this design offers a unique and sophisticated living experience.
